Cook Park has so many opportunities to play and enjoy the outdoors.  Along with sports fields, a boat launch and picnic shelters, there are wetlands, wooded areas, open space, and a butterfly garden. This 79-acre park is the largest in the City of Tigard. It has many accessible amenities including accessible restrooms, drinking fountains, benches and raised barbecue grills. Picnic shelters are rentable. One accommodates up to 250 people.

Although Cook Park does not have public transit close by, it has numerous parking lots throughout the park with accessible parking spaces.

The AR team chose a trail loop that included many of the park features with various trail surfaces and environments (see locations on the map). This trail loop starts at the boat launch parking lot. There is a seasonal accessible restroom here, as well as a covered picnic area nearby.

There is offshore fishing, with permit, near the boat launch. The Tualatin Riverkeepers rent kayaks and canoes at the launch, late May through mid-September. Check their website for more information.

Heading east toward the Butterfly Garden on our suggested route, you will transition from a paved trail to a natural surface trail. There may be a lip at the surface changes. At the Butterfly Garden is another covered picnic area that has interpretive displays. A paved trail passes through the beautiful foliage of the Garden.

Going north toward the sports fields, you will find more picnic shelters, accessible restrooms and drinking fountains. Continuing the loop in the southern direction, you will will pass a large playground. Some of the play equipment has accessible features. The playground surface has soft engineered wood fiber and rubber matting that are compatible with most wheelchairs.

Completing the trail loop, you have an option to walk in the street or the parallel natural surface trail. The natural surface trail takes you through a wooded area with periodic views of the river. There are many roots crossing the trail in this section.

During the winter months, natural surface trails close to the river may flood due to rising waters. Annually, all but one parking lot, at the park entrance, are closed November—February. Call (503) 718-2598 for the latest information.
