Donald L Robertson City Park is named after Wood Village's former mayor (pictured to the right) and is considered the crown jewel of the city.
The park features activities for all ages including a playground with toys for younger and older children, a basketball court, an open field for soccer and baseball, and a nature trail that wanders through the entire park, including a wetland area. The surface of the perimeter trail and the playground is made up of engineered wood fiber that is soft, but sturdy enough to support a wheelchair.
Other interesting features at this park are a gazebo, with an available electric outlet, a covered picnic area and an outdoor meeting place called "The Learning Center." The Learning Center has three rows of concrete bench seating, curved and facing an open area where a speaker or presentation could be staged. Seating capacity would be less than 30. The gazebo and picnic areas are approached by a paved sidewalk and parking lot. The Learning Center is reachable by a gravel trail that may be loose in areas.
The trail leading to the wetlands has interesting natural features. It has the same engineered wood fiber surface as does the perimeter trail. Entering the wetlands, the trail transitions from wood chip to boardwalk with no edge protection. This boardwalk may be slippery when wet.
There are short bark chip trails that offshoot from here and end at benches with information on the surroundings etched into granite markers. This trail transitions to loose gravel held in place by steps, keeping the gravel in place up the moderate grade of the trail. This segment ends at a lookout with the best view of the park and surrounding area.
Near the playground is an accessible restroom, drinking fountain and picnic shelter. There is a parking lot here and to the right of the entrance road. Both have accessible parking spaces. There are numerous benches and picnic tables in the park. They are in shade and sun, overlooking the many park activities.
The park is open from 8 am to dusk.
